Although conducted mutually by French and Luxembourgish (public and private) research companies, the choice of efficiency leads to the designation of a single place to promote the project work. The project will start on the Courmettes site (Alpes Maritime, France).
Le Domaine des Courmettes is a private property of 600 ha open to the public, located in the commune of Tourrettes-sur-Loup, in the Alpes-Maritimes. With a peak culminating at 1248 m, the site dominates the French Riviera and offers a breathtaking view of the Mediterranean and the Mercantour massif.
The estate, classified as Natura 2000, is part of the Regional Natural Park of the French Riviera Pre-Alps. Managed as a nature reserve, it is a superb place to hike in the heart of nature. The reception buildings, at an altitude of 850 m, form a very beautiful living space.
Les Courmettes is located on a south-facing slope of the Pre-Alps, about 15 km from the Mediterranean Sea. The Mediterranean climate is characterized by warm and humid sea winds, a mass of cold air and orographic rain due to the relief of the Pre-Alps.
Summers are dry due to low rainfall, especially in July with an average of 10 mm of precipitation, and warm but moderate temperatures averaging 22 °C. The average annual temperature is 15.5 °C and the average rainfall over the year is 770 mm. By way of comparison, the average annual temperature in Dijon (21) is 10.5 °C and the average rainfall is 770 mm. The precipitation in Tourrettes-sur-Loup are mostly during the winter seasons, especially at the end of the year with about 110 mm. The soil is shallow, the rock is sometimes outcropped, and the plots are gently sloping. The soil configuration is thus very draining and has a low water reserve.
